My Bed Is A Sailing Boat
I was so excited when Annabel asked me to illustrated her third children’s story ‘My Bed Is A Sailing Boat’. I read the script and immediately I was getting ideas buzzing around my head for what the images would be for each spread. We began the project by discussing the book in detail and once I had a clear image of what Annabel was looking to achieve, I began drafting out ideas for the book spreads. I started with purely rough, scribbled ideas to get my thoughts across and once Annabel was happy with the initial concepts, I started working on the character designs for the three main characters. We went through a couple of iterations for the character design of the young boy, and a few colour changes to their outfits, but largely the designs stayed the same.
The final designs...
Once the characters and lined page concepts were signed off, it was time to get to the best part of colouring the final illustrations! I absolutely LOVE seeing the images coming to life – below are a few page spreads of the final book pages.
